We Are Thankful

We are thankful for Horizon’s Education Partners who provide ministry training to students adapted to their context. At the board meeting in August, Horizon approved two new partnership requests. We now have 24 partners based in 19 countries. Thank you, God, for the ministry of these schools and organizations as they train leaders for Christ’s church in many nations.

We are thankful for the students learning with the help of Horizon’s platform. During the first half of 2017, over 2,000 students from more than 50 countries using five languages logged in to our Moodle learning management system. Students are now studying at all educational levels, including certificate, professional, bachelors, masters, and doctoral. Thank you, God, for these students and their leadership of the church now and in the future.

We are thankful for new opportunities to teach faculty about online and blended learning. Through one of our new partnerships, Horizon will train about 200 faculty members from 80 seminaries in 10 regions of the world in five languages during 2018 and 2019. The training will include face-to-face training sessions covering topics related to starting and managing an online program, Moodle basics, blended courses, etc. as well as Q&A and hands-on learning opportunities. We will also use our online courses, such as Effective Online Teaching, Designing for Online Learning, and Moodle Skills for Facilitators. Thank you, God, that theological educators want enhanced skills.

We are thankful for the experienced and hard-working team at Horizon. Our annual retreat last month provided valuable time for remote team members like me to connect with the others. In the training sessions, we learned Situational Leadership principles and built skills in using them. We spent time rehearsing milestone events from the past year and refreshing our vision for ministry. We also enjoyed eating together, and the annual bocce ball game was hotly contested once again. Thank you, God, for the strength of collaboration by a team with unity of purpose.

We are thankful for your partnership in God’s work in theological education around the world through Horizon. Your faithful prayers, encouraging words, and sacrificial giving fuel this ministry. ABWE Canada has directed me to advocate for the ministry of online theological education and to raise more support. Would you become a recurring donor? Would you increase your monthly or annual support? Would you connect me with others who might also partner with us? Would you pray for these things? Thank you, God, for partnership in the gospel (Phil. 1:3-5).

Family Update

Autumn is the season to get back to school, and we have. The transition to high school seems to be going well for A & G. L, K, E, & A are all back at the same schools this year. They are doing well with their studies. I am now in the thesis stage of my M.A. in Education. Pray for diligence as the deadlines are mainly self-imposed and parenting keeps me hopping at the best of times. Thank you for your continued prayers for all of us!
