Ministry Update

Thanks for your prayers for my ministry with Horizon Education Network. The burgeoning interest in enhancing theological education with internet technology continues to provide new opportunities. Pray that God grants us wisdom to spend our energy wisely and strength to labour effectively.

“Our holy calling to train and develop leaders who can help the church confront its contextual challenges is critical and demanding, and yet can bring great joy and satisfaction.” Perry Shaw, Transforming Theological Education

Three members of the Horizon team recently visited a new educational partner in Northern Ireland. They spent a week building relationships and training faculty and staff on the use of Moodle, the learning management system we use. Praise God for this new partner.

PhillipsOur Horizon team has grown again.  Doug and Karen Phillips, veteran ABWE missionaries to Ukraine, are the newest members to join. Doug’s experience managing translation projects and his ability to communicate in Russian will be a tremendous asset for Horizon. Pray that God will provide the balance of Doug and Karen’s support.

Praise God that the translation of the New Testament Survey content into Portuguese has been completed. The Horizon team and I have spent time recently revising learning activities and assessments before translation. Even as we look forward to the end of this project, another translation team has begun translating the course content into Russian. Pray even now for the students who will enroll in these courses.

During the first half of 2016, students completed over 850 courses on Horizon’s Moodle. In addition, over 750 missionaries completed a required training module on Horizon’s Moodle. Since launching this spring, 15 students have completed the first Moodle Skills for Facilitators course. I have begun preliminary work on the next course in the series. Pray that students become “leaders who can help the church confront its contextual challenges.”

Back to school! All of us are back to the books. A is back at Fanshawe; E, at York; A, G, and L, at London Christian Academy; Tim, at UOIT; and, K is new to the Beal Art program. Pray especially for her during this transition. We’re excited that she was baptized recently and we anticipate God’s continued work in her life.

Thanks for praying for our time at ABWE’s Missionary Enrichment Conference this summer. We had a profitable time being challenged spiritually. Hanging out with other MKs was especially enjoyable for my missionary kids (MKs). We met with colleagues ministering around the globe. I hadn’t seen some of them since candidate class in 1999! The stories told of God’s work around the world were inspiring.
