Ministry Update

OB_Winter_2015-1

Article published in EMS Occasional Bulletin

Read, write, edit, repeat! This process has been my ministry focus recently. It began last fall when the editor of the Evangelical Missiological Society (EMS) Occasional Bulletin visited the Horizon office. What he saw and heard intrigued him. He invited us to write an article explaining the ministry of Horizon. I volunteered. After 3,800 words, my deadline arrived. The article, “Re-envisioning Theological Education 2.0: What is the Role for Silicon Valley?”, was published in the January 2015 edition of the EMS Occasional Bulletin. Several interesting conversations have resulted.

The process continued as I began a major revision of our New Testament Survey course in January. This  project has been much more involved than expected. Our course development team has poured hundreds of hours into editing lecture transcripts and designing new learning activities and assessments. A colleague and I began teaching the course on March 9 for Bluewater Bible College in the US Virgin Islands. We’re trying to stay ahead of the students!

The process continues with my collaboration with the director of Seminario Teológico Bautista de Lima (Peru) to update Panorama del Antiguo Testamento (the Spanish version of Old Testament Survey). My colleague there is translating updates to course content and designing new resources. He is currently teaching the course to 9 students.

Family Update

Thanks for your continued prayers for our family. It seems hard to believe that cancer claimed Jane as its victim 5 years ago on February 10. We all still have difficult days, “but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 15:57).

A is finishing his first year in the Payroll & Bookkeeping program at Fanshawe College. E has been accepted into several post-secondary programs. She still has auditions for several other programs before she decides on which to pursue. K is developing her skills in aquatic leadership. She expects to be qualified as an assistant lifeguard by the summer and has an interview to use her skills at a summer camp. A & G are playing on their school’s junior basketball team. L will compete in his AWANA club’s Grand Prix races later this month.

Praise & Prayer

  • Pray for my trip April 27-30 to Harrisburg, PA for ABWE’s Field Prep Seminar.
  • Pray for good learning in New Testament Survey and Panorama del Antiguo Testamento.
  • Pray the summer work and fun plans for the kids will come together.
  • Pray for E’s post-secondary decisions and plans.
