"A nation on edge"

One of the many statements made by President Richards in his “State of the Nation” address to Parliament last Monday was that “a nation on edge cannot optimise systems and programmes that are put in place for its benefit.” And there is indeed an all pervasive feeling that “Trinidad and Tobago gone through,” and that God is no longer a Trini. That myth has now been punctured. We now know how Jamaicans and Guyanese have long felt, viz. that their countries are in the grip of a malignant force from which it is difficult to disengage.
