Killer bacteria strike at PoS General Hospital: Baby boy dies

A BABY boy who was born prematurely at the Port of Spain General Hospital on July 2, 2003, died ten days later as a result of sepsis Enterobacter, the same bacteria that have caused the evacuation of the neonatal unit at Mount Hope and is responsible for the death of an unknown number of babies.
Shelly Ann King, 31, of Diego Martin, gave birth to her son at Port of Spain General six weeks early, on July 2. She said it was not until after the baby died that doctors informed her that bacteria had killed him.
